Erwin Sattler - One of the last Manufactories for exclusive Clocks
While everyone, since one can remember, thinks that the best clocks are being produced in Switzerland, a small but exquisite company in Gräfelfing by Munich in Germany has increasingly been the focus of interest over the last few years. The reasons are the precision pendulum clocks which are produced in the clock manufactory located there.
Everything began in the year 1903, when the horologist Heinrich Sattler registered a movement with perpetual calendar for a table clock at the royal patent office.
Today, one of the clocks from the Sattler Company is in the scientific German Museum in Munich: the Sattler Secunda Accurata 1958, a precision pendulum clock with seconds pendulum, a complete jeweled pivot and ball bearings movement as well as a patented free escapement. This clock runs more accurately than any quartz clock and has a deviation of less than a second per month. It is understood that the clocks from the Erwin Sattler manufactory are nowadays considered the reference among clocks and that they repeatedly revitalice the company’s philosophy of “Quality for Generations” in an impressive way.
The path to achieve this status was long and was always influenced by the restless efforts that still set apart each of the current 18 employees: Deep respect for the tradition of the classic craft coupled with a constant longing for horologic perfection and innovation for manufacturing timeless mechanical clocks.
Even though, the demand for highest accuracy and most noble materials has not changed in all the years since the company was founded, the reasons today for acquiring a Sattler clock are totally different than 100 years ago. Lately, clocks represent a true alternative for interior décor, art or designer stereos. They have become an unmistakable and solid part of the living area, which impressively underline the personal lifestyle and the individuality of its owner. Especially in this hectic time of laptops and mobile phone, more and more people long for serenity in their lives.
In the search for a balance between body, spirit and soul, one’s own four walls become a new place of relaxation and recreation. Instead of being satisfied with fast-paced consumer goods, one searches for things that are part of one’s daily life with much attention and love for details. Such as, for example, Erwin Sattler clocks. The regular oscillation of the pendulum in a second-rhythm as well as the subtle sound of this mechanical precision timekeeper has a soothing influence on every observer.
This development of the living culture is pointedly expressed in the company motto of the clock manufacturer Sattler: “Time Interior” - or differently stated, the fascination of mechanical precision pendulum clocks that fill every ambience with a timeless elegance.
