Metallica 1735 Steel – of the manufacture Erwin Sattler

Worldnovelity – Precision pendulum clock in steel coated case.
Wouldn’t it be nice to build a pendulum clock in a solid steel case?

This project is in the minds of the clock manufacture Erwin Sattler already a long time. A problem has always been the difficult work on steel case parts and the weight of a finished solid steel case.
A new sensational method enables us now to build the Metallica with a real steel surface. The raw case is set up like usual in a fine solid wood construction and is afterwards treated with a new cold steel spray technique.
Solid metal is turned into powder and then converted into a liquid composite with 95% of real metal. Then it is sprayed on the surface of the case where it builds a stainless coating with a thickness of 20 to 30 micron which makes the case last forever.
After hardening, the polishing takes at least 10 hours and the result is a real steel surface with fantastic metallic shine. For the first time in the history of Erwin Sattler, we nickel-plated in black the fine polished metal parts like lunette, weight, pulley-bridge and escapement-bridge, to match the case surface. The dark metallic shine is a good contrast to the case and reveals the case an extraordinary elegance. 20 years experience in precision clockmaking is put into the movement. The movement is equipped with 10 precision ball bearings and 2 jewelled bearings. The gilded gears drives the temperature compensated 5/6 seconds invar pendulum. An opening in the silvered regulator-dial allows a view on the Graham escapement with jewel pallets. A barometric compensation compensates reliable the changes in air-pressure.
The tungsten weight with ball bearings enables a winding period of one month. Because of the high quality, the use of high-grade materials and the compensation devisees, the Metallica 1735 reaches an accuracy of up to 3-4 sec./month.
The Metallica 1735 in steel is an impressive object for office and conference rooms, lounges or living rooms. Because of the unlimited durability it will also attract future generations.

Materials: Solid brass for the plates, completely hardened pinions and axles, hand-domed, polished and blued hands, silvered open regulator-dial, 5/6 invar pendulum, tungsten weight, pulley with ball-bearings, 2 jewelled pivots and 10 ball-bearings
Case: Solid steel coated wooden case, glass on 3 sides and at the top of the case, so you have the possibility to illuminate the movement, crank key and other accessories in a secret box at the bottom of the case.
